David Beckham’s Son, Brooklyn, 15, Shoots Through Arsenal’s Youth Ranks (Video)

Soccer fans soon might wonder seriously whether Brooklyn Beckham can become as good a player as his father David was.

Brooklyn, 15, is progressing through Arsenal’s youth system, and his recent call-up to the Premier League club’s under-18 team has prompted speculation that his first professional contract isn’t too far away, according to the Mirror.

Brooklyn was an unused substitute in Arsenal 18s’ 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. The younger Beckham warmed up on two seperate occasions but ultimately didn’t appear in the contest.

Beckham normally plays for Arsenal’s U-16 team. His inclusion in a game involving older players suggests Arsenal thinks highly of him and is trying to accelerate his development.

Last week, Beckham posted a highlight on Instagram of one of his games with Arsenal’s junior team in which he shoots off the crossbar. One commenter noticed the similarities between Brooklyn’s and David’s kicking technique.

It still would be unfair at this point to compare Brooklyn’s career to that of his father — a former England captain and winner of 10 league titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid, the Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. But if Brooklyn continues playing with older children and proves himself at that higher level, Arsenal (or another team) likely will offer him a professional contract in the next three years.
