Boston University fans may have their sights set on Monday’s Beanpot final, but the Terriers know they have their work cut out for them in Hockey East play.

At no time was that more relevant than Friday night, when unranked Notre Dame (13-15-5) scored a late equalizer in the third period to help earn a 2-2 tie with No. 3 BU (19-5-5) at Agganis Arena.

The Fighting Irish proved their mettle from the get-go, as forward Jake Evans netted a goal less than five minutes into the second period to put his team in front.

Yet the Terriers responded in kind. Winger Nick Roberto evened the score with a goal assisted by phenom Jack Eichel about five minutes later, and stud forward Evan Rodrigues put BU in front just 31 seconds into the third frame.

With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, however, Notre Dame forward Anders Bjork found paydirt to tie the score. Neither side could light the lamp in overtime, and the Fighting Irish skated away with an impressive tie.

The two teams will duke it out again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Agganis Arena.
