Reports: Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling To Miss Tottenham Game With Foot Injury

Raheem Sterling is set to miss one of Liverpool’s biggest games of the 2014-15 season.

A foot injury will prevent Sterling from playing against Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League game Tuesday at Anfield, according to the BBC and Sky Sports. Sterling suffered the injury during Saturday’s goal-less draw with Everton and failed to recover in time to face Tottenham.

Sterling is Liverpool’s joint-top Premier League goal scorer this season (five, tied with Steven Gerrard). The 20-year-old was expected to play the most advanced attacking role against Tottenham.

Liverpool hasn’t disclosed Sterling’s injury. The Reds haven’t set a timetable for his return, either.

Sterling’s absence could set the stage for Daniel Sturridge to start for the first time since returning from injury. Sturridge has scored one goal in three substitute appearances following his recovery from calf and thigh injuries.

Liverpool also will be without Lucas Leiva, who suffered a groin injury on Saturday.

Liverpool-Tottenham pits two contenders for a top-four finish in the Premier League against one another. Tottenham sits fifth in the standings with 43 points after 24 games. Liverpool is seventh with 39 points from as many games.
