Brian Williams’ transgressions got him a six-month suspension from NBC, but one Minor League Baseball team is trying to turn them into a profit.
The Akron RubberDucks, the Cleveland Indians’ Double-A affiliate, are hosting “Brian Williams’ Pants-on-Fire Night,” poking fun at the “NBC Nightly News” anchor for lying about being in a helicopter that was shot down in Iraq. The event will be held on April 27, which happens to be national “Tell a Story Day.”
If that wasn’t good enough, the RubberDucks have plenty of activities planned to really hammer home the point. The first 100 fans at Canal Park will receive a pair of suspenders, and there will be on-field games of “To Tell the Truth” and “Two Truths and a Brian Williams.” And if you’re lucky enough to be named Brian Williams, you’ll have a chance to throw out the first pitch.
This isn’t the first time the RubberDucks have capitalized on a big news story. The team introduced the “Johnny Footlong” hot dog to their menu last season in honor of Cleveland Browns quarterback and local sensation Johnny Manziel.
