Looks like New England Patriots fans just missed out on a piece of, um, team history.
The 2007 Patriots AFC championship ring formerly owned by Matt Estrella, the team videographer who filmed the New York Jets’ defensive coaches and sparked the Spygate controversy, sold at an auction Sunday for $16,940, per ESPN’s Darren Rovell. The ring is 10-karat gold and has 55 diamonds in it.
Estrella’s ring wasn’t the only big seller at the Goldin Auctions event. A 1942 game-used Joe DiMaggio jersey brought in the most money at $169,400, and a 1920 Chicago White Sox-signed baseball — which included signatures from eight players involved in the “Black Sox” scandal — fetched $81,070.
The best-selling NFL ring was the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl XLVII ring that team owner Stephen Bisciotti gave to former running back Jamal Lewis. It sold for $50,820.
