Bill Belichick: ‘I Could Probably Handle’ Coaching First Base

If Boston Red Sox first base coach Arnie Beyeler ever needs a day off, then Bill Belichick is ready for a new challenge.

Belichick was asked if he’d have any interest in coaching first base during a spring training game after seeing Jim Harbaugh throw on an Oakland Athletics jersey earlier this month and take over the duties or a day.

“First base, I could probably handle that,” Belichick said Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting. “What do you do, take the guy’s gloves after he gets a hit, or his knee pad or whatever it is? First base, I think I could handle that. I don’t think you even wave them to second, do you? What does the first base coach do?”

If Belichick ever figures it out, he might have a post-retirement plan.
