The Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Zach Trotman from the AHL’s Providence Bruins on an emergency basis, the team announced Sunday.

Trotman’s recall is likely related to B’s defenseman Dougie Hamilton exiting Saturday night’s game against the Florida Panthers in the second period and not returning. Boston was forced to play with just five defensemen as a result and ultimately lost 2-1 in a shootout.

The Bruins have not made an official announcement on Hamilton’s status for Sunday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The addition of Trotman gives the Bruins another right-handed shot and size (6-foot-3, 219 pounds) on the blue line. The 24-year-old defenseman has tallied 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in 38 games for Providence this season. He’s also played 17 games for Boston, recording four assists.
