There are countless examples of players losing teeth, receiving stitches in-game only to return without missing a shift, taking pucks to the face and other absurdly painful moments that would sideline us mere mortals for days, if not weeks. It’s a hard game, and sometimes players’ faces are direct proof of that.

Black eyes are a part of the sport just like big hits are. Whether it’s Columbus Blue Jackets winger Cam Atkinson sporting a nasty shiner from a skate to the face or Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Radko Gudas rocking the tough look after engaging in some fisticuffs, the majority of players are no stranger to the ol’ black eye.
