Lucas Leiva brought Liverpool some good news ahead of its biggest game of the 2014-15 season.

Lucas returned to the practice field Wednesday after recovering from a groin injury, which has sidelined him for the last six weeks. Lucas shared a photo of him smiling during Wednesday’s practice session on Instagram.

Lucas, 28, played a key role in Liverpool’s mid-season revival, shielding the defense to great effect from his deep-lying position in the midfield. Liverpool lost only once in 21 games in which Lucas appeared from late November to early February. His return will boost Liverpool’s hopes of winning the FA Cup, securing a top-four finish in the Premier League and earning a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Lucas limped out of the goal-less draw with Everton on Feb. 7, and scans later confirmed he had suffered a groin injury. Lucas spent part of his absence rehabilitating his injury in his native Brazil but now is back in full training with his teammates.

Lucas is unlikely to start Sunday when Liverpool hosts Manchester United in the Premier League, but he could come off the bench. The international break will follow Sunday’s game, giving Lucas almost two weeks to build his sharpness and fitness before club action resumes in early April.
