Martin Skrtel isn’t one to exaggerate when he feels pain, so Liverpool fans rightly are worried.

Skrtel collided with Rudy Gestede and fell hard onto the Anfield turf Sunday in the early minutes of Liverpool’s goal-less draw with Blackburn Rovers in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Skrtel suffered a game-ending injury in the awkward fall, and the extent of his injury is unknown at this point.

Skrtel lay nearly motionlessness after his crash landing, and club doctors treated him on the field for around seven minutes before stretchering him down the tunnel.

Skrtel fell in the third minute after an aerial duel with Gestede. Skrtel lost his balance after the Blackburn striker collided into him, and he landed with the full force of his body weight.

Encouragingly, Skrtel acknowledged the home fans who were chanting his name, giving them the thumbs up sign.

Kolo Toure replaced Skrtel.

Liverpool is hoping Skrtel’s injury is not too serious. Skrtel is Liverpool’s top center back and an ever-present figure at the heart of the Reds’ vastly improved defense. The Slovakian has played 39 of Liverpool’s 46 games (in all competitions) and scored one goal in 2014-15.
