Martin Skrtel confirmed what many suspected: He is that tough indeed.

The Liverpool defender wanted to continue playing Sunday after he was injured in an awkward fall during the early minutes of an FA Cup quarterfinal draw with Blackburn. Medical personnel stretchered Skrtel off the field, leaving many fearful that he had suffered a catastrophic neck injury.

Skrtel allayed those fears Sunday night when he posted a family photo on Instagram. The caption told Skrtel’s followers that he would have played on if the final decision was his to make.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said in his postgame press conference that Skrtel’s condition was “fine.” Skrtel reiterated Rodgers’ comments, giving fans hope that he could return to action as soon as next Monday when the Reds face Swansea City in the Premier League.

Skrtel stripped off part of the brace on his head in frustration after he was injured, as staff carried him off the field. He then raised both thumbs to both sets of fans, who chanted his name. Some observers suggested Skrtel wanted to remain in the game at the time. They were right.
