There’s no one way to build a championship-caliber football team, no matter how much fans might clamor for their favorite teams to follow a certain model.
It’s a popular adage that a good-but-not-great team is “one player away.” Meanwhile, people who root for teams with top-heavy payrolls pine for a more balanced salary approach. Ultimately, there is no right answer.
Matt Chatham illustrated this in his latest entry on FootballbyFootball.com. In a chart, the former NFL linebacker broke down the teams with the most top-five salaries on their rosters entering 2015. Three of the five didn’t make the playoffs in 2014, but one of them — the New England Patriots — won the Super Bowl.
