It appears we have our first blockbuster trade of the NFL offseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday. The deal can’t be finalized until March 10, the start of the new league year.

McCoy started slow in 2014, but he finished with 1,319 rushing yards and five touchdowns. It’s likely the seventh-year pro will end up replacing C.J. Spiller, who is an unrestricted free agent, in the Buffalo backfield.

Alonso will play under his former Oregon coach, Chip Kelly, in Philadelphia. The 24-year-old linebacker missed the 2014 season with an ACL tear but was an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate in 2013.

While the trade might seem crazy on Philly’s end, McCoy comes with a $10.25 million salary-cap hit in 2015 and is locked in through the 2017 season. Plus, the running back class in this year’s draft is deep.

Still, there’s a chance that either team could back out on the deal before next Tuesday. McCoy’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, made it clear on Twitter that the trade has not been finalized.
