The Philadelphia Eagles parted with their star running back, but they still mean business in 2015.

The Eagles made headlines last week by agreeing to ship All-Star LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso, but they reportedly are close to signing two prized free agents to fill that void.

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has told people he’ll sign with the Eagles this week, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Adam Caplan on Sunday. Gore is expected to sign a three-year contract with $7.5 million in guaranteed money, according to Schefter.

Shortly after that news broke, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that ex-Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell told her he’s heading to Philly. Maxwell is expected to sign a multi-year deal with $25 million guaranteed, per Houston sports radio host and NFL writer Jason Braddock.

The additions of Gore and Maxwell would provide a nice boost on both sides of the ball for an Eagles team that barely missed the playoffs in 2014. The 31-year-old Gore would fill the featured-back role vacated by McCoy and act as a good compliment to third-down back Darren Sproles.

Maxwell, who came into his own as a cornerback in Seattle’s “Legion of Boom,” could help shore up an abysmal Eagles pass defense that ranked 31st in the NFL last season by allowing 265 passing yards per game. Philly also reportedly has strong interest in Devin McCourty, although the New England Patriots are expected to make a strong push to re-sign the free-agent safety.
