The Aaron Hernandez murder trial saw arguably its highest-profile witness Tuesday.
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was called to the stand at Bristol County Superior Court in Fall River, Mass., to testify in the case against the team’s former tight end.
Kraft’s testimony wasn’t lengthy, and the 73-year-old Patriots owner looked highly uncomfortable at times. Much of the testimony centered around Kraft’s interactions with Hernandez in the days following Odin Lloyd’s death.
“I understood there was an incident that had transpired, and I wanted to know whether he was involved, and if he was — any player that comes into our system, I consider part of our extended family, and I wanted to get him help,” Kraft said, per ESPN.com.
Kraft also recalled Hernandez saying he had an alibi for the night of Lloyd’s murder.
“He said he was not involved,” Kraft replied when asked what Hernandez said in his conversation with the owner. “That he was innocent and that he hoped that the time of the murder incident came out because he said he was in a club.”
It’s still possible that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will testify at some point, as he was on the list of potential witnesses.
