The only thing left is a formal introduction.

It’s been more than two weeks since Yoan Moncada reportedly agreed to a contract with the Boston Red Sox, yet the deal still hasn’t been made official. Moncada was spotted at JetBlue Park on Wednesday, though, so the 19-year-old Cuban infielder’s work clearly is underway.

The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier reports Moncada took batting practice in a cage Wednesday at the Red Sox’s spring training facility. A major league source told Speier the deal between Moncada and the Sox is close to completion. A formal introduction reportedly could occur this week.

Moncada reportedly will receive a $31.5 million signing bonus, though Boston is on the hook for $63 million because of a 100 percent tax the club must pay Major League Baseball for blowing past its allotted pool for the current international signing period.

Moncada, considered by many to be a future superstar, is expected to open the season in the lower levels of the Red Sox system.
