It’s not every day that your first NHL goal is a game-winner in one of the most important matchups of the season, but that’s what happened to Zach Trotman on Thursday night.

The young Boston Bruins defenseman was still feeling the excitement at practice Friday, one day after the B’s 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

“I mean, it was pretty cool last night — I had a little trouble going to sleep — but it’s one goal, and you’ve got to put it past you and move forward and now start working toward Saturday,” Trotman said at Ristuccia Arena, per the Bruins’ website.

At 24 years old, Trotman obviously still has more to work on, but he’s had plenty of practice because of injuries to Boston’s blue line throughout the season. Coach Claude Julien has liked what he has seen in Trotman’s two long stints with the Bruins this season.

“I just feel he moves the puck well,” Julien told the team’s website. “He sees the ice well. He makes that good first pass, and that’s been a real good thing that we’ve seen from him. He’s also big and strong, and he doesn’t necessarily give you the crunching checks, but he’ll go in there and use his strength in the corners to battle, so he’s coming around.”

In other Bruins news, the club announced Friday it assigned defenseman Joe Morrow to Providence. Morrow was called up Thursday on an emergency basis but did not play.
