The Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Joe Morrow from the AHL’s Providence Bruins, the team announced Thursday.

Morrow is eligible for Thursday night’s road game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

The reason behind the recall is not yet known. Boston had six defensemen on the NHL roster before Morrow’s recall, including Zach Trotman, who was recalled shortly Dougie Hamilton suffered an injury March 21 against the Florida Panthers.

Morrow has scored one goal in 15 games for Boston this season, and he has eight points (three goals, five assists) in 27 games for Providence. The 22-year-old defenseman will add puck-moving ability, speed and offensive skill to the Bruins’ blue line, if he enters the lineup.
