Pekka Rinne doesn’t just save pucks. He makes them disappear.
The Nashville Predators goaltender was his usual stellar self in Game 4 of his team’s Stanley Cup playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks. With under six minutes remaining in the first overtime period, however, Rinne took his talents a bit too far.
After trying to clear a puck behind the net, Rinne somehow managed to get the thing stuck in his pads so no one could play with it. Like, for a while.
You know it’s bad when referees and teammates start shaking you down for the puck.
Finally, after a good three minutes or so, the mystery was solved when Rinne finally found the puck hidden in his leg pad.
Pekka might have been better off just leaving the puck in his pads, as Brent Seabrook beat the Finnish netminder with a blast from the blue line in triple overtime to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 win and a 3-1 series lead.
