The U.S. Open could be coming back to Brookline, Mass.

The Boston suburb’s The Country Club hasn’t hosted the major tournament event since 1988, but the U.S. Golf Association accepted its invitation to hold the 2022 U.S. Open there, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday. If the two sides can reach a deal, it would be the fourth time the Open has been at The Country Club.

The only factors standing in the way of Brookline getting the U.S. Open are logistical. Town land would have to be used for temporary parking, and shuttles would be needed to get fans to The Country Club, but The Globe reports that everyone involved seems to be on the same page.

“I’m reasonably confident that the town, the USGA, and The Country Club will work cooperatively and reach agreement on the major issues,” Brookline town administrator Mel Kleckner told the Globe. “There are a number of issues, but I think they can resolved.”

USGA director of public relations Janeen Driscoll added that while discussions still are in the early phases, they seem to be headed in a clear direction.

“I wish I could absolutely confirm that we’re coming, but we’re still in the middle of trying to assess the viability,” Driscoll told The Globe. “The discussions are moving forward, and to say anything more at this point is just premature. But we’re really encouraged by those discussions.”

The last notable event to be held at The Country Club was the 2013 U.S. Amateur.
