Red Sox pitcher Rick PorcelloRick Porcello earned the first of (hopefully) many wins this week.

The 26-year-old right-hander picked up his first W in a Boston Red Sox uniform Monday, going eight innings in the team’s home opener, a 9-4 win over the Washington Nationals. That outing was enough to earn Porcello the Amica Pitcher of the Week.

Porcello got off to an excellent start in his first start at Fenway Park, holding the Nationals scoreless through the first four innings. Washington finally touched the righty for two runs in the fifth inning and a run each in the seventh and eighth, but the nine runs provided by the Sox’s offense proved more than enough cushion.

Porcello finished the day with just four hits and four runs (three earned) allowed. He struck out six and walked one.
