It’s not exactly a secret that the Buffalo SabresĀ are in a race for last place, but Sabres fans made that even more obvious.

Buffalo was leading the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 during the third period at First Niagara Center on Friday. But when Blackhawks star Jonathan Toews scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart as time was expiring, the Sabres crowd went wild, per The Buffalo News’ Mike Harrington.

You can even hear on video that, as Harrington said, the cheering is just a little too loud to be coming from Hawks fans alone.

The last-place team has a 20 percent chance of landing the No. 1 pick in the NHL draft lottery, and this year, the prize is OHL star Connor McDavid. After that, the chances drop down to 13.5 percent.

Still, if the Sabres can’t land the top pick, Boston University phenom Jack Eichel is next in line, and he’s more than ready to head north.
