Let’s pump the brakes on those rumors of Raheem Sterling’s impending exit from Liverpool.

Sterling’s agent Aidy Ward issued a statement to the media Tuesday in which he downplays the previous day’s reports, which claim Sterling will reject all contract offers and demand a transfer from Liverpool this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo and talkSPORT.

Ward’s statement doesn’t deny Sterling will ask (or already has asked) to leave Liverpool. Ward confirms he will meet with Liverpool directors this week for showdown talks concerning Sterling’s future.

Sterling’s current contract expires in 2017. Liverpool is keen to sign Sterling to a new, long-term deal, but the 20-year-old forward has rejected the club’s previous offers.

Liverpool has insisted Sterling will remain at Anfield next season, regardless of whether he signs a new contract. Leading clubs in England and beyond reportedly are monitoring the fluid situation with an eye on bidding for the talented Liverpool and England player.
