Barack Obama Joins Twitter; Cubs Feel Left Out When He Doesn’t Follow Them

President Barack Obama doesn’t miss a chance to talk about his favorite sports teams, but that didn’t keep the Chicago Cubs from feeling a little left out Monday.

The president finally joined Twitter on Monday morning with his own account, quickly becoming one of the most popular Twitter accounts out there. Billed as “the official government account of the President of the United States,” Obama’s @POTUS account gained almost 700,000 followers in the three hours after his first tweet.

Obama quickly started populating his own Twitter feed, too, following a select group of accounts, primarily government-related accounts. However, of the 65 feeds Obama started following Monday, four of them were his beloved Chicago sports teams — the Blackhawks, White Sox, Bears and Bulls. You’ll notice that list doesn’t include the Cubs.

That led the Cubs to commit one of Twitter’s worst offenses — they more or less begged for a follow.

The Cubs also got a little defensive when they were accused of being “unhappy” that Obama chose not to follow them. They’re also holding out hope they’ll get a little help from Mrs. Obama.

And now you’ve read an entire story about a Twitter account. Congrats.
