Former UMass basketball player Derrick Gordon announced via Twitter on Sunday that he will be transferring to Seton Hall.

Gordon, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Plainfield, N.J., garnered headlines last April when he became the first active Division I college basketball player to publicly announce that he is gay. He informed ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman in March of his plans to leave Amherst.
“I appreciate everything that the coaches and my teammates have done for me,” Gordon told Goodman. “As far as me leaving, it has absolutely nothing to do with my sexuality. In fact, everyone could not have been more supportive with my situation.
“This is just a personal decision for me to chase my dreams. I’m trying to put myself in the best situation to be successful, and I hope to go somewhere where I have the opportunity to expand my role and more importantly, win as many games as possible.”
Gordon played 28.4 minutes per game for the Minutemen this past season, averaging 9.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Seton Hall, which finished 16-15 in 2014-15, has not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2006.
