There will be an unofficial national holiday in the Philippines this weekend when native son Manny Pacquiao steps into the ring to fight Floyd Mayweather.

Pacquiao is a national treasure for Filipinos, and there’s obviously going to be a ton of interest in his can’t-miss fight against Mayweather. Of course, that means there’s going to be a high volume of TVs tuned to the bout, which means there’s going to be a lot of electricity used.

So much, in fact, that Filipino utility officials are asking people to unplug their refrigerators during the fight in order to ensure there will be enough electricity to watch the fight.

“Truth is, come May 3… Palawan grid would still be 2-megawatt short of power supply. Some circuits may inevitably be switched off,” secretary of the electrical cooperative on the island of Palawan, Rante Ramos, posted on Facebook, per Yahoo! Sports.

“Collectively we can do something. On May 3, let’s all voluntarily switch off or disconnect as many appliances as we could.”
