Jorge Posada: Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemens Shouldn’t Be In Hall Of Fame

Plenty of people already think Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez don’t deserve a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and you can add their former New York Yankees teammate Jorge Posada to the list.

The retired catcher, who spent his entire 17-year career in pinstripes, is on tour promoting his new book. And on “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday, Posada was asked if Clemens and Rodriguez should be allowed in the Hall with their connection to performance-enhancing drugs.

“No,” Posada said, per HardballTalk. “I don’t think it’s fair for the guys that have been in the Hall of Fame that played the game clean. … I don’t think it’s fair. I really don’t. I think the guys that need to be in the Hall of Fame need to be a player that played with no controversy.”

While Posada’s opinion is a popular one among baseball fans, it’s still interesting to hear it from a guy who benefited from Clemens’ presence with World Series wins in 1999 and 2000 and was there when A-Rod helped the Yankees add another in 2009. Not to mention, those two guys aren’t the only teammates of Posada’s who have either tested positive for or been connected to PEDs.

Posada’s autobiography, “The Journey Home: My Life in Pinstripes,” shows that he’s harboring some animosity toward the Yankees — manager Joe Girardi in particular — so perhaps this simply is part of that bitterness. Regardless, it should be fun to see what happens when the Yankees retire Posada’s number this season.
