Titans Accidentally Hung Up On Marcus Mariota During Draft Call

The Tennessee Titans really know how to mess with a guy.

Despite all of the rumblings, the Titans hung on to their No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and selected former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota. But it’s safe to say the two sides didn’t exactly get off to the smoothest of starts. When the Titans picked up the phone to tell Mariota — who was watching the draft in Hawaii — the good news, they accidentally hung up on the Heisman Trophy winner.

According to NFL.com’s Connor Orr:

“NFL Network’s Tiffany Blackmon spoke with Mariota, who said he had no indication that the Titans would draft him. He spoke with Whisenhunt and Webster on the phone … but they initally hung up on him by accident. Once the connection was re-established, the Titans had their guy.”

Brutal.

We can only assume it went from a dropped call to a “no, you hang up first” situation once they told Mariota he was officially a Titan.
