Antonio Cromartie: Darrelle Revis, Not Richard Sherman, Is NFL’s Best Corner

If you play for the New York Jets, chances are you aren’t afraid to speak your mind. Antonio Cromartie certainly falls into that category.

The outspoken cornerback, back in New York after a one-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals, was asked during a recent interview with NFL Radio to weigh in on the classic “best NFL cornerback” debate.

Not surprisingly, Cromartie put new teammate Darrelle Revis near the top of the list. But when Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was mentioned, Cromartie went all in.

“Go play in a defense where you don’t have two All-Pro safeties,” Cromartie said, via ESPN.com. “That’s what I would tell him.”

That’s a reference to Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, who Cromartie believes exaggerated Sherman’s reputation as a “lockdown corner.” But the 31-year-old wasn’t done there.

“Go follow the No. 1 receiver,” Cromartie added. “Follow him around for a whole entire game and let’s see what you can do. Darrelle Revis has done that his whole career. I’ve done that. Patrick Peterson has done it. Joe Haden has done it. (Sherman) is the only defensive back that hasn’t.

“If you want to label yourself as the No. 1 corner, the best corner in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team. His (response) will be, ‘We don’t have to do that, I have my trust in the other corner on the other side.’ That’s not the point. If you’re going to consider yourself the best, do what the best do. They follow around the best.”

Apparently a lot has changed in the last year, as Cromartie said in January 2014 that Sherman was without a doubt the best corner in the game.
