American Pharoah will be in a comfortable position as he looks to take the longest and final race of the Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown hopeful drew the No. 5 spot in Wednesday’s Belmont Stakes post-position draw. Historically, the No. 1 post has been the best in the 1 1/2-mile race, as 23 of the Belmont’s 109 winners have drawn that spot, per Bleacher Report. But with a rather small eight-horse field, the No. 5 post — which has yielded the third-most winners with 14 — shouldn’t be too crowded.
