Dear Arturo Vidal: Come on. Sincerely, Chile.

Vidal was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Tuesday night following an accident in which he wrecked his Ferrari on the outskirts of Santiago, according to Reuters.

Vidal reportedly suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Vidal used Twitter and YouTube to reassure fans that he is feeling fine. “Unfortunately I was involved in a traffic accident,” Vidal wrote. “Luckily we are all well and calm. Thanks for worrying.”

Police have detained Vidal, 28, who will appear in court on Wednesday to answer charges of driving under the influence.

“Because he was driving under the influence of alcohol … (Vidal) is being held,” local Police chief Ricardo Gonzalez said, per Reuters.

Vidal’s accident comes at an inconvenient time, as Chile is hosting the 2015 Copa America. Vidal currently is the top goal scorer in the tournament with two goals in three games.

It’s unclear how coach Jorge Sampaoli will react to the news about his star midfielder. The same goes for the Chilean federation and population at large, who have dreams of winning the South American championship on home soil.
