Deshorn Brown knows soccer players can’t score if they don’t shoot … even after a game.

Brown, a striker on Jamaica’s national team, took a postgame selfie with Lionel Messi on Saturday following Argentina’s 1-0 win over the Reggae Boyz in COMNEBOL Copa America 2015. Brown sidled up to Messi after the final whistle, snapped the photo with the Argentinian legend and shared it with his followers on Instagram.

Some accuse Brown, 24, of showing undue deference to a fellow professional, but the Jamaica striker brushed aside the criticisms.

“I had thought about it before the match so that’s why I took (the phone) to the bench. As soon as (the match) finished, I took the picture,” Brown said, according to Sky Sports. “Messi is the best in the world, a star, and that’s a photo I’ll have as a souvenir all my life.”

Messi, 27, had no problem with Brown’s request.

“He surprised me,” Messi said, according to Sky Sports. “On top of that I was annoyed about how the match had gone despite our win … but when I saw the phone I realised what was going on. It’s really nice when a colleague asks me for that.”

Argentina finished top of Group B with the win over Jamaica. Messi and Argentina will play in the quarterfinals.

Jamaica is out of the Copa America, and Brown will head back home with the selfie of a lifetime.
