Pablo Sandoval is off the hook.

Sandoval, whom the Boston Red Sox benched Thursday for using Instagram during Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, won’t face further discipline from Major League Baseball for violating the league’s social media policy, an industry source told CSNNE.com’s Sean McAdam.

The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham was told before Friday’s game between the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium that MLB considers the case closed, though the veteran third baseman did receive a warning letter from the league about its rules regarding cell phone use.

Sandoval admitted Thursday to liking two photos posted to Instagram by a female user during Wednesday’s game. The 28-year-old said he checked his cell phone during an in-game trip to the bathroom and that he apologized to manager John Farrell, general manager Ben Cherington and his teammates for the mistake, which resulted in the Red Sox benching him for one game.

All things considered, Sandoval is lucky the league didn’t come down on him, even though it probably wouldn’t have been a harsh punishment by the commissioner’s office anyway.
