Diddy’s reported reaction to a football coach’s treatment of his son landed the hip hop mogul in hot water Monday.

UCLA quickly confirmed that the rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs, was arrested on an assault with a deadly weapon charge at the school’s athletic training facility. UCLA police are investigating the incident, which involved a kettlebell, according to the school, although no one was seriously injured.

“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation,” Bruins coach Jim Mora said in a statement released by the school. “This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”

UCLA said Combs was expected to be sent to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center on Monday night.

TMZ Sports, which broke the story, reported that a Bruins assistant coach was screaming at Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, during a conditioning drill as the rapper watched. Diddy reportedly later confronted the coach in his office, grabbed him and was arrested on the assault charge.

Justin Combs will be a redshirt junior at UCLA, where he has played in seven games, mostly on special teams.

UPDATE (7:45 p.m. ET): The plot thickens, as TMZ Sports identified the UCLA assistant in question as Sal Alosi, the former New York Jets assistant who was suspended and fined by the NFL for tripping a Miami Dolphins player on the sideline during a game.

UPDATE (10:07 p.m. ET): Sean Combs was driven off the UCLA campus — presumably to the L.A. County Sheriff’s center — with a large police presence in tow.
