Adam Schefter: Tom Brady Decision Might Not Come Until End Of July

New England Patriots fans hoping to get resolution of the Tom Brady appeal in the next few days might be out of luck.

The Patriots quarterback can only sit and wait for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to rule on Brady’s appeal of a four-game suspension he received for his alleged role in Deflategate. Brady told his side of the story to Goodell on June 23 and has been waiting ever since.

Goodell said last week a decision could come “soon,” which obviously is a very arbitrary answer. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “soon” could mean late July. Schefter said Wednesday on WEEI Radio that a decision might not come until the end of the month.

Schefter also indicated he wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Brady misses no time.

“I’ve said all along, my guess, and it’s purely a guess, is it will not surprise me if Tom Brady does not miss a single game,” Schefter said. “If he’s playing in the opener somehow, some way, whether that’s through a decision the NFL makes, whether that’s through a compromise the two sides reach, whether that’s through an injunction that a judge grants, whatever it may be, I don’t know. I’m not smart enough legally to know the direction and route that this story is going to take.

“We’ve seen it go out in areas that nobody would have imagined, but I do believe, my guess, at this point there’s a chance that Tom Brady won’t miss a game, but we’ll see how that plays out.”

Coincidentally, ABC’s Ryan Smith reported Wednesday morning an NFLPA source told him the union and Brady intend to take the course to federal court if Brady’s suspension isn’t completely erased.
