FOXBORO, Mass. — It’s safe to say Bill Belichick is on to 2015.
The New England Patriots head coach addressed the media ahead of the team’s first day of training camp Thursday, and he was all about living in the moment. Though he fielded questions about how the team might prepare for a stretch without Tom Brady, Belichick made it clear he wasn’t too worried about whether the quarterback’s four-game Deflategate suspension would be upheld in federal court.
“Right now we’re practicing for today, and that’s all I’m thinking about,” Belichick said. “I’m not thinking about a month from now, a year from now, 10 years from now, six months from now. I’ll leave that up to all you guys.”
Belichick didn’t even want to think about the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory in February. Thursday was for training camp, and that was that.
“We’re not living in the past or dreaming about something in the future,” Belichick said. “We’re trying to do a good job with our team today. And that’s what each of our players should be doing as well: making the most out of this opportunity that’s right in front of us.”
But if you thought there was any possibility Belichick might divulge his thoughts on Deflategate or Brady’s suspension anyway, you obviously don’t know the head coach.
“You can go back and read the transcript of what (owner) Robert (Kraft) said (Wednesday),” Belichick said when asked his opinion on the matter. “He advised everybody in the organization not to talk about it. So we’re not talking about it.”
