cubsBaseball is all about the drama.

With the schedule a bit slower this week and some impressive Cinderalla stories (so far) across Major League Baseball, we thought we’d take a step back and examine the field of playoff participants if the season ended today.

Plenty of familiar faces pepper the field — like last fall’s darlings, the Kansas City Royals, and the perennially-contending St. Louis Cardinals. But there also are four different teams currently in the field that didn’t make the postseason last year, meaning a few other familiar faces have been kicked out.

Of course, there’s still a lot of baseball left to play — which overlaps with the biggest in-season trading period of the year — and, of course, anything can happen. That said, let’s take a look at the MLB playoff field and who they’d be matched up against if the season ended at the All-Star break.
