The man who caught Alex Rodriguez’s 3,000 hit is back in the news at Yankee Stadium.

Zack Hample, who caught Rodriguez’s historic hit — a home run — and initially refused to give the ball back to him, claims he was attacked by another fan during Wednesday’s batting practice.

Hample tweeted out photos of himself, which showed multiple scrape marks on his neck, after the incident.

Hample explained his version of the incident in a series of tweets later on.

The New York Yankees released a statement on the altercation to NJ.com:

“An incident took place between Zack Hample and another fan during batting practice when an Orioles player attempted to toss a ball into the right-field stands. After a brief altercation, the two parties were separated.

“After carefully reviewing video recordings of the incident — in which no punches were thrown and there was not a clear determination of who was the aggressor — Yankees operations personnel reassigned the other fan, along with his father, to a different seat location within the stadium. Reports were also taken by security officials.”

Hample returned to New York’s other ballpark — Citi Field — on Thursday, where he added another ball to his collection. So it looks like the incident didn’t slow the ballhawk down.
