WILMINGTON, Mass. — More than 30 players were present for the start of Boston Bruins development camp Tuesday morning at Ristuccia Arena, but there was one notable absence.

Finnish center Joonas Kemppainen, who signed a one-year, two-way contract with Boston in May, was not among the Day 1 attendees because of an injury.

“He had a little bit of a hamstring injury before he came over,” Bruins development coach Jay Pandolfo said. “I think it happened about two weeks ago. We just wanted to make sure he was checked out and everything. There’s a chance he will be on the ice later in the week.”

Kemppainen is expected to compete for an NHL roster spot during training camp and the preseason come September, most likely for a third or fourth line center role. He’s a strong, two-way player with enough offensive skill to provide some depth scoring in the bottom six.
