A Haverhill, Mass., swim coach won’t be instructing any young athletes anytime soon, and parents at Haverhill High School and Charles C. White Pool must be relieved to hear that.

Matt Forrest, a coach and owner at SOLO Aquatics and a part-time employee at the school, has been suspended for life by USA Swimming after he was accused of “sexual contact or advance directed towards an athlete.” The ban was handed down in June but was not revealed until Tuesday by WFXT-25.

USA Swimming “is deeply committed to the safety and welfare of all its members,” the national governing body said in a statement. “It is the mission of the Safe Sport Program to increase awareness to reduce the risk for abuse in sport, and our organization has no tolerance for violations of our Code of Conduct.”

In addition to coaching at SOLO Aquatics, Forrest was contracted to record swim times and oversee certain meets at Haverhill High, according to WFXT, and had previously coached the New England Barracudas. Forrest did not respond to WFXT requests for comment.
