Not a bad effort, Marcel Ndjeng. Not bad at all.
Ndjeng scored a stunning volley for Paderborn on Monday in its 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in a preseason exhibition game. Ndjeng ran onto a header and shot the ball out of the air from inside the center circle — some 50 yards away from Bolton’s goal.
Had Ndjeng scored this goal during the regular season, it would have been a contender for FIFA’s Puskas Award, which recognizes the goal of the year.
But alas, it wasn’t meant to be for Ndjeng, who can be secure in the knowledge that he put his and his team’s names in headlines around the world by pulling off an act of supreme boldness on the soccer field.
