There’s no doubt Russell Wilson deserves more than a rookie contract, but it looks as though he won’t settle for anything less than the best.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback has led his team to two straight Super Bowls, winning his first, but he’s set to make $1.54 million in 2015 during the final year of his rookie deal. However, he might be asking for more than the Seahawks want to give him.

Seattle reportedly offered Wilson “a package worth nearly $21 million per year with significant guaranteed money,” ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported Saturday. The fact that Wilson hasn’t accepted the offer suggests that it’s not quite rich enough. Previous reports claimed Wilson wanted to be the NFL’s highest-paid player, which would require he make more than Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ $22 million per season.

Still, that doesn’t mean that Wilson will walk in the future. The Seahawks likely have some reservations about giving a guy who’s entering his fourth year in the league a huge contract, so there’s a good chance Wilson finishes out his rookie deal. He could even receive the franchise tag in 2016.

But as long as Wilson keeps performing (and basically threatening to play baseball), then it’s likely he’ll wind up with a huge payday from Seattle in the near future.
