Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw after being punched in a locker room fight Tuesday, and some people seem to think it was his fault.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter appeared on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” after it was announced the New York Jets quarterback would miss six to 10 weeks after linebacker IK Enemkpali punched him in the face. And Carter had an interesting theory about what it all meant.

While it’s probably true the quarterback of a team coming off a 4-12 season isn’t a great leader, we’re pretty sure he wasn’t trying to get punched in the face. Not to mention, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Enemkpali’s destructive punch came after Smith put a finger in his face, which would suggest the linebacker probably has a short fuse.

But, yeah, it totally was Smith’s fault.

UPDATE (7:30 p.m. ET): SI’s Richard Deitsch noticed the ESPN NFL Twitter account deleted the tweet, but you still can read the text of it above.
