If Eli Manning wants to be the NFL’s highest-paid player, then that’s news to him.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the New York Giants quarterback was looking to top Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers’ five-year, $110 million contract, which is the highest salary in the league. But Manning said that’s not the case.

“It’s never been said, it’s never come out of my mouth, my agent never said that, so I don’t know where the reports are coming from,” Manning said, per the New York Daily News’ Stephen Lorenzo. “I’ve been here long enough where you understand that reports come out, but I guess you just wonder if it’s just some guy making something up just to make a name for himself. I don’t know what his purpose in saying it is.”

The Daily News’ Ralph Vacchiano reported that Manning’s father, Archie Manning, was upset by the report. But Manning insisted he’s not trying to be greedy.

“I don’t compare myself to other quarterbacks by their salaries or by their contracts,” Manning said per Lorenzo. “I’ve been blessed to play in this league this many years and I’m still blessed to play this year. I’m going to do my job, and that’s all I can concern myself with.”
