Indianapolis Colts Give T.Y. Hilton A Ridiculously Large Contract Extension

T.Y. Hilton is a much richer man Thursday than he was Wednesday — $65 million richer, actually.

Hilton and the Indianapolis Colts agreed to a five-year contract extension that is set to pay him $65 million, with an incredible $39 million guaranteed.

NFL contracts are all about the guaranteed money, and this one is a whopper. To put things in perspective, Hilton’s $39 million guaranteed is the second-highest value for guaranteed money to wide receivers, behind only the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson.

Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant and Denver Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas — two of the five best players at their position — each received $35 million guaranteed in their new contracts this offseason.

Hilton is a good player and the clear-cut No. 1 option in Indy, but needless to say this contract seems a little inflated.
