Fernando Rodney just wanted some relief from the hot Colorado sun Wednesday. Either that or he’s really shy.

Given what we know about the eccentric Seattle Mariners closer, we’re going with the former. Regardless of motive, it still was quite the interesting sight when television cameras caught Rodney hiding in the bushes and strolling among the bullpen foliage during a day game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Gotta keep cool somehow. Besides, this bullpen is impressively scenic, so props to Rodney for channeling his inner Henry David Thoreau and getting in touch with his surroundings.

Unfortunately for the Mariners, Rodney got lost in the woods in the ninth inning when he blew a two-run lead and allowed the Rockies to tie the game. Colorado went on to win 7-5 in extra innings, but at least Rodney now has a better appreciation for nature.
