Memphis Depay arrived at Manchester United carrying high expectations. Depay’s first goals for the Red Devils shows why fans are so excited about him.

Depay scored two stunning goals Tuesday in Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge. Depay cut inside from the left wing and finished with his right foot on both efforts, demonstrating his considerable talent.

Depay notched his first goal 13 minutes into the contest, tying the game five minutes after Brugges took the lead. He expertly controlled the ball and beat his defender with a “sombrero” trick before placing his shot in the far corner of the Brugge goal.

Depay scored his second in the 43rd minute from a similar position as his first. The build-up was less spectacular than before, but his finish was better.

Manchester United defeated Club Brugges 3-1 in the first leg of their two-game qualification series.

Depay, 21, joined Manchester United in July from Dutch club PSV in a transfer reportedly worth around £25 million ($39 million). Manchester United can expect to bank over £40 million ($62 million) if it qualifies for the Champions League group stage, and Depay’s goals have put the Red Devils on course for their Champions League return.

Depay, the latest in the Netherlands’ long line of excellent wingers, appears to have repaid Manchester United’s investment in him.
