Additional tests are forthcoming for Koji Uehara after the Boston Red Sox closer took a line drive off the right wrist during Friday’s win over the Detroit Tigers.

X-rays on the wrist came back negative, but manager John Farrell said Uehara would undergo a CAT scan on the affected area Sunday.

“As the swelling has gone down, just to rule anything out, so it’ll be a CAT scan that will be obviously different than the X-ray he went through the other night,” Farrell told reporters Sunday in Detroit, via MassLive.com. “Swelling is diminished even further today, but this isn’t as a result of further pain or additional symptoms. This is just more, as the swelling has gotten out of there, another test. It will be here (in Detroit).”

Uehara will not be available Sunday for the Red Sox, with his earliest return date being Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.

Farrell also gave updates on left fielder Hanley Ramirez (foot) and Pablo Sandoval (thumb), both of whom were held out of Sunday’s series finale.

“Hanley still has some swelling in the left foot and is still sore,” the manager told reporters. “Inability to really put any pressure on it with any kind of hitting. Pablo has been dealing with that left thumb that he’s jammed frequently, again a couple times (Saturday) night. So, we’re trying to get guys over the ailments they’re dealing with.”
