Red Sox Option Ryan Cook To Triple-A Pawtucket To Call Up Henry Owens

Ryan Cook’s first go-round with the Boston Red Sox lasted one game.

The Red Sox optioned Cook to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday. The move made room for left-hander Henry Owens, who was called up from Pawtucket before Tuesday’s game to make his major league debut in Boston’s series opener against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

The Red Sox acquired Cook from the Oakland Athletics just before Friday’s Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline. The right-handed reliever joined Boston before Sunday’s game with starter Rick Porcello landing on the 15-day disabled list. It’s reasonable to think Cook will return soon enough.

Boston’s 40-man roster now is full.
