There’s now a story behind Geno Smith getting punched in the face, and it doesn’t make IK Enemkpali look too great.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the fight between the New York Jets quarterback and the linebacker, who’s since been released, started over a $600 plane ticket. The ticket was for a charity event that Smith was supposed to attend but couldn’t for good reason.

Schefter added on Twitter that Smith fully intended to pay Enemkpali, too.

Enemkpali apparently was known for being hot-headed before the Jets drafted him in 2014, but it’s still pretty insane that he broke Smith’s jaw in two places and possibly ruined his own career over $600.

Smith is expected to be out six to 10 weeks.
